ab-plane optical spectra of iodine-intercalated Bi1.9Pb0.1Sr2CaCu2O81d : Normal and superconducting properties

چکیده
We report on the ab-plane optical reflectance of an iodine-intercalated Bi1.9Pb0.1Sr2CaCu2O81d single crystal in the 80–40 000 cm ~10 meV–5 eV! frequency range and at temperatures between 10 and 300 K. As compared to the iodine-free Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d , we find that the visible-ultraviolet interband transitions are strongly modified after intercalation. Estimates of the low-frequency spectral weight indicate that there is an increase of hole concentration in the CuO2 planes. This behavior is a consequence of charge transfer between intercalated iodine atoms and the CuO2 sheets leading to an ionized iodine species. The ab-plane optical conductivity is analyzed in both the one-component and the two-component pictures, suggesting that the intercalated iodine does not have any significant effect on the in-plane scattering rate. In the superconducting state, a sum-rule evaluation finds that the superfluid contains about 25% of the total doping-induced, or nearly 86% of the free-carrier oscillator strength in the normal state. The value of the superconducting penetration depth is estimated to be 1980 Å, slightly larger than the 1860 Å found in iodine-free Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d . @S0163-1829~99!01313-2#

Optical study of an untwinned (Bi1.57Pb0.43)Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystal: ab-plane anisotropy
We report on the ab-plane polarized reflectance of an untwinned (Bi1.57Pb0.43)Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystal over the frequency range from 80 to 32 000 cm (10 meV–4 eV) at temperatures between 10 and 300 K. We find a clear anisotropy in the ab-plane optical conductivity above and below Tc, which is very similar to that formerly published data of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (M.A. Quijada et al., Z. Phys. B 94, 2...
متن کاملAnisotropy in the ab-plane optical properties of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 single-domain crystals
The ab-plane optical properties of the high-temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 are anisotropic in both the normal and the superconducting state. Consistent with the orthorhombic structure, the principal axes lie along the a and b crystallographic axes, nearly 45° from the Cu-O bond direction. In the normal state, analysis of the temperature-dependent optical conductivity suggests a scatte...
متن کاملOptical properties of c-axis oriented superconducting MgB2 films.
Temperature dependent optical conductivities and dc resistivity of c-axis oriented superconducting (T(c) = 39.6 K) MgB2 films (approximately 450 nm) have been measured. The normal state ab-plane optical conductivities can be described by the Drude model with a temperature independent Drude plasma frequency of omega(p,D) = 13 600+/-100 cm(-1) or 1.68+/-0.01 eV. The normal state resistivity is fi...
متن کاملDoping-induced change of optical properties in underdoped cuprate superconductors
We report on the ab-plane optical reflectance measurements of single crystals of Y-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ and Pr-doped YBa2Cu3O7−δ over a wide frequency range from 80 to 40 000 cm−1 (10 meV–5 eV) and at temperatures between 20 and 300 K. Y and Pr doping both decrease the hole concentration in the CuO2 planes. This has allowed us to investigate the evolution of ab-plane charge dynamics at doping ...
متن کاملOptical properties of NbCl5 and ZnMg intercalated graphite compounds
We studied NbCl5 and ZnMg alloy intercalated graphite compounds using an optical spectroscopy technique. These intercalated metallic graphite samples were quite challenging to obtain optical reflectance spectra since they were not flat and quite thin. By using both a new method and an in situ gold evaporation technique we were able to obtain reliable reflectance spectra of our samples in the fa...
